Border Security Force
On the first day of December, 1965 the BSF came in to existence as a unique Force - a band of committed, trained, quality men to police the borders of our country. This nucleus of fine men has grown steadily into India's premier Para-military Force, dedicated to the defence and security of the Nation.
Each unit of this great Force is an "India in Miniature", composed of men from the far corners of our country and with widely differing cultural and ethnic backgrounds. Their language, religion and customs may vary widely but they are all firmly held together by their common objective of guarding our borders that stretch from the snowy mountains of the north to the low lands of the south, from the barren desert areas of Kutch to the lush forest lands of the East. This is an outstanding example of India’s "Unity in Diversity".
Over the last twenty five years, the BSF has grown into a Force to reckon with, the heterogeneous character of its men imparting it colour and vitality and training and motivation fortifying its innate power and punch. The BSF has dependable men of quality and character ever dedicated to the cause of the nation. They make the BSF a versatile Force ready at a moment's notice to move to any corner of the country where their services are required, sometimes to put down fissiparous forces, to help State Governments maintain law and order and to provide succour to those affected by natural calamities, in addition to their main role of guarding the borders. At all times they hold aloft and remain true to their motto, "DUTY UNTO DEATH". They count no sacrifice too great for upholding this ideal.
